BRAWLEY – Back to school season is here as Brawley’s Feed The Need hosted a children’s clothing giveaway for north-end cities on Wednesday, August 9.Families gathered outside the Brawley Feed the Need center as they waited for their children to pick clothing pieces for this upcoming school year.

K-12th grade students were able to start the new school year feeling and looking great as volunteers supplied a variety of clothing pieces for the children to choose.

Each child received a maximum of five full outfits including brand new imitate wear and a mixture of gently used outer pieces.

Families were able to enter the center freely and pick clothing items that matched their needs. Students also received a sweet cold treat of Hawaiian shaved ice as they exited with their clothing haul.

“Times are tough right now, financially. There are a lot of people struggling. I understand the need for help, because I, as a single mother, struggled with back-to-school clothing for my children. Children need to have the confidence they are wearing something ‘new’. It might not be brand new, but it’s new to them,” Founder Rosalind Servin said.

The nonprofit’s goal is to provide more than 50+ children with the necessary clothing items they need for one full week of school.

The organization plans to continue its back-to-school clothing event as scheduled on the following dates and locations:

Thursday, August 10: Westmorland Lighthouse Church 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Friday, August 18: Calipatria Community Center 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Saturday, August 19: Niland Chamber of Commerce 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a pop-up in Bombay Beach.
