Music of the Mountains: Lucas Wolf

Every time Lucas Wolf went to his grandparent’s house, he would be curious about the piano that made its home there. He would always play at some point during his visits there, and his grandma would even teach him some songs. Eventually, Wolf got a guitar for the first time, and he started practicing a lot.

Around his senior year of high school, he was exposed to Jack Johnson through an ESPN awards ceremony. This music exposed him to other artists that he admired, including Ben Harper, Damien Rice, and Ray LaMontagne. He fell in love with the idea of writing and singing songs. He tried college, but he ultimately decided that it wasn’t for him, and he threw himself “into a [hitchhiking] lifestyle where [he] had to get at least halfway decent at playing music to eat.”

He finds it hard to classify himself at times, but he believes he leans more into folk, singer-songwriter, rock, and indie tendencies. In 2018, he released an album called Falling Into Place, and he says that he loves the feeling when he stops worrying about getting that perfect take and is able to have fun interacting with everyone in the studio with him. He loves the “reciprocal energy exchange” that happens when a crowd is truly listening to what he has to say as a musician when he performs live. He loves inspiring others with his music, and he hopes that everybody who comes to his shows has a good time.
